Trend Watch : Tech in Homes

Category Property Trends

Smart systems and integrated technology are taking the industry by storm. With the development and enhancement of AI and other technologies, smart homes are becoming more and more futuristic by the minute.

In this article, we're diving into some of the most exciting developments in technology and how they are reshaping the way people live. High-tech homes are in, and here to stay. Keep reading to find out how and why.

Smart Tech

Realtor Magazine recently broke down 10 innovative technologies that are revolutionising the industry. Among them, the award winning LG transparent TV is set to launch in the second half of this year, affording homeowners with a stunningly aesthetic and cordless viewing experience.

Following the boom in micro apartments, we're seeing appliance companies following suit with downsided appliances, perfect for compact spaces - think AirBnB, first homes and short term rentals.

Next up - AI integrated fridges. While smart technology fridges alone aren't a new trend, Samsung is stepping it up a notch. Not sure what to make for dinner? Their new fridge technology features a built in camera, capable of scanning individual items and recommending recipes based on your available ingredients.

And we couldn't skip the pop-up at-home theatres. Bulky projectors are being replaced with sleek, hidden projectors in ceiling lights.

This isn't the only way you can create a cosy home cinema; for the retro souls, LG's old school film camera inspired projector adds a touch of tradition with modern capabilities making for a perfect home viewing experience.

Health Tech

One of our favourite trends is the integration of health tech in homes. From smart thermostats that control temperature, to humidity sensors that measure air quality. Add this to our previously mentioned rise in biophilic design (see our article here), and the air you breathe at home has never been fresher.

Another notable advancement is the development of smart water filtering systems that provide health insights to users. Companies are stretching past your standard bidet, bringing to the market toilets that sensor data to provide users with health insights, encouraging people to seek professional help when necessary and truly improve their health and lives.

Forbes breaks down even more ideas in their comprehensive article.

Multifunctional Tech

The rise in smart home gadgets has also ushered in an emphasis for seamless integration and multifunctionality. Companies are coming up with innovative ways to equip smart devices with multiple purposes.

Once again, LG takes centre stage with a sleek side table that doubles as not only a charging port, but also an LED light and air purifier.

Security patrolling, self guided lawn mowers keep your garden looking award worthy, while monitoring your grounds for unusual activity - and notifying you thereof.

And with systems such as Matter that seamlessly integrate and connect your house-wide devices to one another, less is more takes on a whole new meaning.

These are just a few of the many multifunctional devices being created for homes. Medium and Realtor Magazine explore a number of inventions spearheading these integration trends, and how they're doing it.

Honourable Mentions

While the following trends aren't particularly new, we're excited to watch this space and see how they continue to evolve and create revolutionary living experiences.

Companies like Ideal Home and others continue to delve into the world of AI, tech and smart home innovation, and it's a space we're excited to be in. Here are our top picks:

Smart Lighting

From technical efficiency to psychological insights, smart lighting is evolving to include more all encompassing features that take homes to the next level.

Lighting is being enhanced to better suit and create the perfect atmosphere for any and all occasions.

You'll find lighting suited to optimal efficiency in at-home offices, to moody downlighting that puts traditional dimmers to shame, and lighting programmed to aid in achieving optimal sleeping patterns, and everything in between.

Home Security

Soon, all you'll need is a smart phone linked to all your security measures, for seamless, efficient and effective security.

With everything from doorbells to keyless locks being evolved to connect with smartphones, home and personal security has never been in your control more.

The serious nature of personal and home security is being addressed as technologies evolve, with companies such as Boundary in the UK now offering 24/7 assistance, and capabilities to alert police or armed response.

While we've barely scratched the surface, we're excited to keep an eye on these trends and the evolution of modern, holistic living.
