Claremont Upper at a glance

CLAREMONT

Many consider Claremont to be the heart of the Southern Suburbs in Cape Town and it's not hard to understand why. Located close to all major amenities, shopping centres, sports grounds and schools, it also boasts a number of restaurants, bars and other easily accessible entertainment options.

Shopping

There plenty of options for you to enjoy some retail therapy, but the jewel in the crown has to be Cavendish Square. This upmarket mall all your retail needs. From tech and sporting equipment, jewellery and fashion to groceries and homeware, Cavendish has everything is a shopping mecca and also boasts a number of lovely restaurants and two cinemas. The neighbouring Cavendish Close is also home to some lovely retail options, while Access Park in neighbouring Kenilworth has more than 100 shops and factory outlets for brands such as Nike, Puma, Levi's, Adidas, and more.

Restaurants and Bars

Claremont and surrounds have a buzzing nightlife, with nightclubs like Tin Roof popular with the students, while Oblivion Bar and Café and the Home Bar & Restaurant offering sit down meals, before transitioning into a more social vibe later on. The neighbouring area of Newlands is also home to some fantastic restaurants such as the Italian Kitchen and Basilico, while Botany is a great upmarket cocktail bar popular with the older crowd.

Schools

Like neighbouring Newlands, Claremont is perfectly located in terms of local schools. Grove Primary is considered to be one of the best schools in Cape Town, while some of the country's most prestigious Junior and High Schools are based in nearby areas. SACS Junior School and Westerford High School are both located in Newlands, while Bishops, Rondebosch, Wynberg (all Junior and High Schools) are all within 10-15 minutes driving distance from Claremont. Schooling is definitely one of the big drawcards of the Claremont area.

Hospitals

The Life Kingsbury Hospital is a state-of-the-art hospital with 226 beds, 11 theatres, an accident and emergency unit with a doctor on duty 24/7, as well as state-of-the-art diagnostic and monitoring equipment.
