A Taste of Cape Town's 'Riviera'

Category Area Profile

It is considered to be Cape Town's 'Riviera' and for good reason, with the Atlantic Seaboard having a decidedly Mediterranean vibe to it. With its long white beaches, cocktail bars and top class restaurants, it ticks all the boxes, but the reality is that it puts the French Riviera in the shade.

With its moderate climate, prime real estate and diversity of clubs, restaurants and lifestyle experiences, the Atlantic Seaboard puts the 'location' in 'location is everything'. Running from the V&A Waterfront on the north shore of Table Mountain all the way down to Hout Bay, this spectacular stretch is second to none in terms of what it has to offer.

Certainly, it has always been considered to be leading the way in terms of top-class restaurants, clubs and bars with areas like Green Point, De Waterkant, Sea Point and Camps Bay boasting some of the best establishments in the city. But the true lure of the Atlantic Seaboard is how it continues to stay ahead of the curve, with new things to sample seemingly opening daily.

The tried and tested remain true - think Harbour House, El Burro, Sotano, La Mouette - and need to be visited if you have not done so yet, but if you're looking for something a little fresher, we recommend these more recent additions to the Atlantic Seaboard.

Salsify at The Roundhouse

The latest venture by celebrated SA chef, Luke Dale-Roberts of the Test Kitchen, Salsify is a new fine-dining experience at The Roundhouse in Camps Bay. The focus here is on seafood and 'root to leaf' dining with nothing wasted. Test Kitchen Head Chef, Ryan Cole, heads up this exciting new restaurant and will be joined by general manager Markus Fiedler (also from The Test Kitchen) and sommelier Nash Kanyangarara (from Constance Moofushi in the Maldives). Open Tuesdays to Sunday for lunch and dinner.

La Parada, V&A Waterfront

Serving everything from smart, snack style choices like prawn croquettes to more robust offerings like their famous crispy Pork Belly or grilled cheese with ham and truffle - La Parada at the V&A Waterfront caters for every level of appetite. Stylish, yet unpretentious, La Parada opened its doors in November last year and continues to expand on the name established by the venues in the CBD and at Constantia Nek.

Upper Bloem, Green Point

One of the most stylish new restaurants in the Mother City, Upper Bloem comes from the same guys that established La Mouette Restaurant as one of the city's best restaurants. The menu offers small plates packed with local flavours and seasonal produce and boasts a wine list of note.
